Pengantar Metodologi Penelitian
Ada banyak atau mungkin terlalu banyak buku tentang metodologi penelitian di Indonesia. Mungkin Indonesia merupakan negara dengan jumlah buku metodologi terbanyak di dunia. Jika demikian keadaannya, mengapa buku ini ditulis? Bukankah hanya menambah jumlah buku dan tidak menjamin bahwa buku ini akan dibaca oleh mahasiswa dan juga tidak menjamin perkembangan penelitian di universitas? Banyaknya buku tersebut tidak otomatis berarti bahwa penelitian akan maju di Indonesia. Buku ini ditulis dengan pendekatan manajemen pengetahuan untuk mahasiswa strata satu sebagai pengantar yang bersifat umum. Tidak banyak buku yang melakukan pendekatan ini. Pengetahuan metode penelitian yang bersifat khusus bidang studi harus diperoleh dari sumber lain. Buku ini juga tidak memuat pengetahuan statistika yang diperlukan untuk proses penelitian. Pengetahuan statistika harus diperoleh dari sumber yang khusus diperuntukkan bagi statistika.

Buku ini cocok untuk peneliti pemula, khususnya mahasiswa sarjana (undergraduate) dan pascasarjana (postgraduate). Umumnya mahasiswa mengalami kendala dalam menulis proyek penelitian mereka yakni skripsi, tesis dan disertasi. Kendala tersebut terletak pada kemampuan untuk menginterpretasikan pengetahuan yang diperoleh selama pembelajaran metodologi penelitian ke dalam praktik penulisan proposal dan laporan penelitian. Buku ini menjawab kendala tersebut. Ciri khas buku ini, selain memberikan pengetahuan konseptual tentang penelitian, juga memaparkan teknik-teknik menyusun proposal dan laporan penelitian. Teknik-teknik yang diberikan cukup praktis, dimulai dari mengidentifikasi masalah dan merumuskan judul penelitian, membuat proposal sampai kepada penyusunan laporan penelitian. Buku ini juga dilengkapi dengan teknik-teknik mengolah dan menganalisis data dengan bantuan software statistik SPSS. Statistik yang disajikan adalah statistik deskriptif, parametrik dan nonparametrik, termasuk validitas dan reliabilitas instrumen, analisis regresi menggunakan variabel intervening (jalur/path analysis) dan variabel moderator (moderated regression). Teknik-teknik yang ada disetting sedemikian rupa agar dapat dipelajari secara mandiri tanpa bantuan dosen maupun instruktur.
Metodologi Penelitian Kuantitatif Perspektif Sistem
Anak judul buku ini adalah “Mengungkap Novelty dan Memenuhi Validitas Penelitian”, sengaja dipilih mengingat begitu sangat pentingnya kedua hal tersebut. Perancangan proposal penelitian untuk hibah kompetisi menyaratkan hal tersebut jika ingin mendapat pendanaan, baik yang berskala nasional dan lebih-lebih yang berskala internasional. Demikian halnya dengan proposal untuk disertasi, sedangkan untuk proposal tesis dan skripsi diharapkan mahasiswa mampu untuk mencapai hal tersebut. Di sisi lain, luaran hasil penelitian berupa manuskrip atau naskah yang akan diterbitkan pada jurnal internasional bereputasi atau jurnal nasional terakreditasi. Manuskrip yang berpeluang besar bisa terbit menjadi artikel di jurnal internasional bereputasi atau jurnal nasional terakreditasi sangat dituntut memiliki novelty yang tinggi dan ditulis dari hasil penelitian yang valid. Buku ini mengulas secara sederhana dan mudah dipahami tentang “Mengungkap Novelty dan Memenuhi Validitas Penelitian”.
